Dear Dr, Mary;
Some years prior to my retirement from the University in 1994, I visited the Audiology Department at the university. They tested my hearing and recommended 2 aids in my ears. I was to try them about one month and if I did not like them, I was allowed to return them without incurring any debt. I lasted about two weeks and returned them.

After I retired in 1994 my wife kept telling me that I had a hearing problem. Of course as a typical husband I didn't believe her. Eventually I sought your services. You tested my hearing and found that I did have a hearing loss. You suggested one aid in the right ear, as I usually answered the phone using my left ear. This device worked well for roughly 7 years when the amplifier was not working properly. You sent it in to the company and they replaced it and the aid lasted another 7 years. It quit within the last 6 months. I do not know the life span of a hearing aid, but I thought 14 years was pretty good.

This time I knew I had a problem, so rather than seek your assistance I ordered a hearing device from a magazine advertisement that although I could hear, the reception had a tinny sound and it would not stay on my ear. I tried another device, which was not satisfactory.

Push came to shove and both my wife and I scheduled an appointment with you. We both had similar hearing losses and you suggested we each should have an aid. We chose one unit, as it would lower the cost. My wife had never had a hearing aid and is having trouble getting used to wearing it. It is a triangular shape and fits over the ear with a small tube going in the ear. When it is inserted, it is nearly invisible.

My unit fits in the ear and really helps my loss. It is visible in my ear, but I do not care if it is seen. I wear it primarily to church, to meetings and in our house. I do not wear it to outside activities such as mowing and walks, etc.

I do know that if either one of us has a problem with our device that Dr. Mary or her staff will assist in resolving it.
